Making New Friends

As part of the Teacher's for Global Classrooms experience I learned the value of having students communicate with others from around the world. I decided to have my students create an interpals account and meet new people.

Here is what they had to say...

Reading is more fun with a buddy!

This year I was fortunate enough to meet some of the students that are a part of a program housed at our school site. Meeting them made such an impact on me that I wanted to share that experience with my students. My coworker, Ms. Alfonso, suggested that I work with Ms. Oliver's PMH class and we teamed up as "Book Buddies". We  read Animal Farm to Ms. Oliver's first period students. This was followed up by a multisensory arts and crafts project.

Ms. Oliver hosted an art show to display some of the work she helped her students complete and invited the school to visit her class.

My World

I will be enbarking on a very exciting journey to Morocco in two weeks which I will be sharing with my students, friends, and any one who is interested.

I am currently teaching Social Studies at Miami Carol City Sr. High, where there is never a dull moment. My students keep me on my toes and I can always count on them to give me a reason to laugh out loud.

My school is a very large High School and we serve a predominantly African American population. My students are actively involved in many extracurricular activities ranging from the Educational Excellence and Advisory Council, the Ecology Club, football, cheerleading, and the band.
